CHARLOTTE — Construction of the new airport overlook is expected to get underway soon.

On Monday night, the Charlotte City Council approved the $8-million contract.

The new overlook will feature views of the runway, two playgrounds, restrooms, and plenty of picnic tables.

For Rock Hill mom Sarah Aycock, the opening of the overlook will provide a fun, safe space for her children to watch planes land and take off.

“I think that this is going to be a great addition to the area,” Aycock said. “My kids love to go and watch the airplanes, and right now there isn’t a whole lot.”

The overlook is expected to open at the end of next year.
