Video shows Concord's former mayor pro tem cursing at police during arrest

CONCORD, N.C. — Concord's mayor pro tem has resigned from his position and apologized Monday night after he was arrested over the summer, officials said. The next day Channel 9 obtained police body cam of the arrest.

At an emergency meeting, the council unanimously approved Brian King's resignation from the position. According to officials, King will remain as a council member.

In a Facebook post, King admitted to inserting himself into a situation with local police officers over the summer in Folly Beach, South Carolina, and was arrested.

Body cam footage shows King getting into a patrol car after police said he cursed at them while he was drunk in public.

"I am the (expletive) mayor pro team of the city of Concord," King could be heard saying in the video.

King said he was out drinking and was rude to police officers who were doing their jobs.

Folly Beach police said King walked over to them while they were investigating an unrelated case and that was when they said King started to walk away and yelled.

"I have done nothing to you," King said in the video. "And I have just gotten a corn dog, and you can kiss my (expletive)."

"I did not represent this body well at all by my actions and I'm very sorry for my mistake," King said in the Facebook post. "I just wanted to again hope that you'll accept my apology. I think somebody else would probably better serve as mayor pro tem at this point so that we can take care of this distraction and move onward and upward."

Officials said the charges against King were dropped.

Mayor William Dusch said they first heard about King's arrest a few weeks ago after a citizen brought the incident forward.

Dusch said council did the right thing and that any further action would come from the state.
