CONCORD, N.C. — Developers are hoping to bring a tech giant and a lot of high-paying jobs to a site in Concord that used to make cigarettes.
[Former Phillip Morris plant in Concord sold]
The owners of the former Philip Morris plant on Highway 29 have announced they will tear down the gigantic 3.5 million-square-foot complex.
The main reason is potential buyers are saying they love the property but can't do anything with the plant.
Demolition will start next month and take most of the year to finish.
Local leaders expect the site will remain industrial and said it has everything already in place to attract new business.
Philip Morris shut down in 2009 after more than 25 years.
