GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Gaston County is in the mix for an economic development project that could bring hundreds of jobs to the Charlotte region.
The Gaston County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 10 approved an incentives grant for Project Jasmine. County documents state the project calls for a $35 million investment and the creation of 346 jobs. Those jobs would include an average annual wage of $51,157. The project is in the manufacturing sector, but the exact nature of its operations is unclear.
The recruitment process for Project Jasmine is still competitive. Donny Hicks, executive director of the Gaston County Economic Development Commission, told commissioners this week that two other states were still in the mix for Project Jasmine. Hicks added that North Carolina has offered a Job Development Investment Grant for the project as well.
