CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The deadline for the 2020 census is now less than a week away.
The Census Bureau posted numbers showing that the overall response rate as of Wednesday for North Carolina was 94%. That is just under the United States response rate of 96.6%.

The number includes people who filled out the census on their own and those who gave their information when a census worker knocked on their door.
The census is about so much more than counting people. It’s used to select the right amount of representatives in Congress. It also helps decide how hundreds of billions of dollars should be spent on schools and hospitals. And it helps businesses decide where to expand, who to hire and what to sell.
