WEDDINGTON, N.C. — A dog missing for 62 days is home, thanks to the tremendous effort of strangers.
A family from Weddington was in Blowing Rock hiking over New Year’s when something spooked their dog Delilah, who ripped away from her leash and ran off.
The family searched for days, posted on Facebook and handed out flyers. The missing dog became well-known in the area but, eventually, the family had to return home.
Volunteers and a professional trapper stepped in though and continued the search for Delilah.

They built a trap with a camera in the area where the dog had been spotted. Volunteers planted food for weeks in hopes of coaxing Delilah to fall for the trap.
Finally, Delilah could be seen entering the trap with the door shutting behind her.
“I wish there were words to explain just their perseverance and their patience and their love for a dog, and a family that (didn’t) know us,” the dog’s owner, Paige Twer, said. “We’re best friends, forever, now.”
Delilah had an injured leg that is now in a cast, but she is expected to be OK.
