CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board voted Tuesday night to name the new south county relief high school “Ballantyne Ridge High School.”
The other options were:
- Creekside High School
- Reginald Hawkins High School
Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill said she backed Ballantyne Ridge.

The school will relieve overcrowding at Ardrey Kell, Myers Park and South Mecklenburg high schools.
The school is under construction on North Community House Road in Ballantyne.

It will open for the 2024-2035 school year.
CMS is also looking to build a relief middle school to relieve overcrowding at Community House, Jay M. Robinson and Rea Farms middle schools.
The middle school would open for the 2025-2026 school year at the earliest.
