CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will start testing the drinking water for lead at nearly three dozen additional schools.
[CMS testing all sources of water at 58 elementary, K-8 schools]
It is the second phase of water testing that will start Sept. 24 and will be completed Nov. 9, district officials said.
The district will be focusing on 17 high schools, 15 middle schools and three administrative sites that were built before 1989.
Parents will get letters before and after their child's school is tested.
Testing from last fall showed high lead levels in the water at 26 elementary schools, but parents weren't notified until this month.
Repairs were made to the schools involved.
There will be a third phase of testing for nearly 70 schools built after 1989.
