CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has revised its end-of-year activity guidelines.
Student performances, including dance, theater, orchestra and band will allow no more than one to two guests (parent/guardian) per participant. That will depend on each school’s venue capacity to attend performances following safety protocols.
For indoor events, each participant will be allowed to bring no more than one to two guests (parent/guardian) and will not exceed 30% capacity.
Face coverings will be required.

Families/guest groups must physically distance and sit at least 6 feet apart from other families/guest groups. A screening will be conducted before entering the facility or performance event.
For outdoor events, each participant will be allowed to bring no more than one to two guests (parent/guardian).
Face coverings are encouraged but will not be required at outdoor performances.

After the performance, families and guests must leave the campus immediately.
Guidance that has been provided for fifth- and eighth-grade promotion ceremonies and other EOY activities will not change.
High school athletics should follow the state’s High School Athletic Association guidance, which was updated April 30.
The revised guidance still always requires that face coverings be worn while indoors at schools or school facilities, subject to limited exceptions.

Face coverings while outdoors is no longer required.
Starting May 6, CMS will adopt the new guidance and students, staff and visitors will no longer be required to wear a face covering when outdoors on school property.
Students or staff may continue to wear face coverings outdoors if they want to.
Face coverings outdoors is encouraged for unvaccinated people who cannot maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others.

The use of face coverings is also strongly encouraged outdoors when people are gathering in large numbers in crowded spaces.
Athletic events at CMS indoor and outdoor facilities are still limited to 30% of maximum capacity.
The revisions are based on Gov. Roy Cooper’s Executive Order No. 209 that went into effect on April 30.
