CHARLOTTE — Julius L. Chambers High School has to forfeit all its football games from the 2021 season, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools confirms.
Chambers reported one of its football players was ineligible to play and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association investigated, CMS said. NCHSAA found that the player was ineligible due to a residence requirement.
In addition to the forfeit, the NCHSAA ruled that the high school has to pay a $250 fine and return any of the money earned in its home playoff games, according to CMS.
This is the third CMS school that has had to forfeit its 2021 football season, Channel 9 has reported.
Last month, West Charlotte High School was forced to forfeit all its 2021 through 2022 football games after the team used an ineligible player, CMS said. West Charlotte faces the same fine Chambers does and must also return its playoff money.
And before that, Myers Park High School also had to forfeit its season due to fraudulent documents used for school enrollment and athlete eligibility, the school’s principal stated in a letter to parents. Myers Park faces the same $250 fine and must return its playoff money as well -- a sum of more than $6,700.
