HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A lockdown at Hopewell High School was lifted Tuesday afternoon while police were active in the area, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district officials.

Channel 9 spoke with a mom of a student at Hopewell High who received a message from the school at about 11:30 a.m.

In the message, the school said the lockdown was due to “police activity.”

Huntersville police told Channel 9 they received a call saying someone saw a person walking through their yard with a weapon near campus. Officers said there was no weapon found at Hopewell.

Police said they are still investigating, but cleared the area after no weapons were found.

Tuesday’s lockdown came just a week after a fight at Hopewell where a student dropped a gun on the floor inside the school. Five students were taken into custody, one of whom had a loaded gun, police said.

Police later charged a sixth student in connection with the incident.
