Days after a student was shot and killed inside the halls of Butler High School last year, Superintendent Dr. Clayton Wilcox announced a bold step to begin random security wanding of students and random backpack checks at high schools.
He said the security measures would start after winter break and that CMS police and CMPD would be designing the procedures and rules surrounding the new measures.
Eyewitness News education reporter Elsa Gillis has been checking in with the district about the changes, but an exact date of when the security measures will start is still not clear.

The district said it would increase camera monitoring, get all teachers panic cards and work with staff to update all safety plans and communications.
Channel 9 will continue to push for more information from the district when these changes will be implemented and how they will work.
