CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools announced the 2022-23 Teacher and Teacher Assistant of the Year Wednesday night.
Ana Cunningham, a teacher at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology, was named Teacher of the Year, and Rachelle Gethers, a teacher assistant at Paw Creek Elementary, was named Teacher Assistant of the Year.
Cunningham has taught Honors English II at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology in the West Learning Community for 11 years.
“Professional development has deepened my commitment to offer the most impactful, relevant, and rigorous educational experience for students,” said Cunningham. “This is the greatest profession ever, there are so many inspiring leaders at CMS. And to all of the students who made this possible, I am here because of our students.”
Gethers is a pre-K teacher assistant at Paw Creek Elementary in the Northwest Learning Community and has worked for the school district for 25 years.
Gethers said she is blessed to be able to represent her learning community, her Paw Creek Elementary school community, and all the children who look like her in her learning community to let them know that anything is possible.
