CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The south Charlotte day care worker accused of abusing a 5-month-old girl bonded out of jail Saturday.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department charged Rebecca Wilt Jackson, 45, with Child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury following her arrest Friday.

Police were called to Easter Seals UCP Children’s Center on Marsh Road May 6 after medics reportedly found the five-month-old girl unresponsive with bruising on her head, swelling on her face and a rash on her arm. The baby was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center and investigators last told Channel 9 she was in serious condition.

Investigators have not yet said what exactly they believe happened but told Channel 9 they arrested Jackson after gathering evidence and other information, as well as conducting interviews.

Easter Seals Child Care released the following statement:

We have been informed that formal charges have been brought against a former Charlotte employee of Easter Seals UCP related to an incident that occurred at our Charlotte child development center.  That individual had already been removed from the facility and is no longer employed by Easter Seals UCP.  We continue to cooperate with authorities in their investigation of the incident.  We want to reiterate that the child and her family remain in our thoughts and prayers.  If the allegations in Charlotte are substantiated, they would stand in complete contradiction to Easter Seals UCP’s principles and values.
