CMPD: Victim identified in fatal south Charlotte crash

CHARLOTTE — Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have identified the driver who was killed in a south Charlotte crash on Friday night.

Channel 9 brought you the story as breaking news and was on the scene as officers blocked the outbound side of East Independence Boulevard.

Police said the fatal crash involved a pedestrian and a car.

Responding officers found 43-year-old Kristine Ann Sikorski lying in the roadway. She was pronounced dead on the scene by MEDIC.

Investigators learned that Sikorski was walking westbound in the eastbound lanes of East Independence Boulevard. She was walking in the lanes of traffic, not in a marked crosswalk, and was wearing dark clothes.

Officers said Sikorski was hit by a 2017 Dodge Caravan driven by James Lamar Yarbrough, who stayed at the scene.

Yarbrough was found to not be impaired, but police don’t know whether or not Sikorski was under the influence at the time of the crash.

Police say the investigation is open and ongoing.
