Eyewitness News reporter Tina Terry talked to police, who said he may be responsible for a string of other break-ins in the same area.

The morning that North Division officers arrested and charged Allen, authorities already had been searching for someone in four other break-ins in the same area.

•    Feb. 2: Sackett Way

One of the victims in the break-ins told police he was home when a young man broke into a rear window and tried to climb inside.

"The victim confronted him and then he left out the back window on foot," Capt. Rod Golding said.

The next day police were on Sackett Way.

"We actually had officers on foot in the wood line hoping the suspect would come back," Golding said.

Authorities said Allen, an 11th-grader at North Mecklenburg High School, was skipping class around that same time police patrolled the area looking for homes to break into.

Police said he found one less than 1 mile away from police on Brownes Ferry Road
