CMPD arrest 2 in connection with Stonecrest Harris Teeter robbery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police told Channel 9 that officers arrested two people -- a man and a woman -- Wednesday morning for their involvement in an armed robbery at a Ballantyne Harris Teeter last weekend.

Investigators arrested 28-year-old Renita Nicole White and 42-year-old Joshua Caleb Bullock.

Police said a man pointed a gun at a Stonecrest Harris Teeter employee Sunday at 5 a.m. and forced him to open the cash register, police said.

The store on Rea Road is open 24 hours.

The alleged thief took the cash and fled.

Further investigation revealed that a female suspect had come into the store prior to the robbery and presented items for purchase to the cashier. Once the registered opened, the male suspect entered and robbed the store.

Shoppers couldn't believe such a violent crime happened in the Ballantyne shopping center they considered so safe.

"I guess I could see theft and things like that, because I think that happens everywhere, but at gunpoint, that surprises me, yeah," Steven Babcock said.

"I didn't know that Ballantyne even had that type of crime. I mean, I live right across the street," Leslie Tatum said.

CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team located and arrested Bullock in the 1400 block of Tom Hunter Road and arrested White in the 10200 block of Woodview Circle without incident.
