CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are searching for two suspects after a string of robberies Thursday morning in Charlotte.

Channel 9 was told that police responded shortly before 8 a.m. to 2417 Pinckney Avenue in Villa Heights, where two men in their 20s robbed a crew of construction workers at gunpoint.

Police said one of the suspects hit a worker in the head with a shotgun before getting away.

A witness who wished to remain anonymous told Channel 9 that he called 911 after he heard something that sounded like dogs fighting.

“I woke up to the sound of, ‘Give me your wallet,’” the witness said.

The witness said one of the construction workers was bleeding and another was spitting blood.

Channel 9 was told that the construction workers who were assaulted are expected to be OK, and that hours after the incident, the crew returned to the scene to resume work.

Officials said the suspects are wanted in connection with multiple robberies. Police said one of the robberies happened Thursday morning before the incident on Pinckney Avenue in the 4800 block of Banfshire Road in northeast Charlotte, and the other in the 2400 block of Dunlavin Way near Country Club Heights.

Authorities said a third suspect was reported to have been with the two men in a black SUV.

Resident Carl Dufendach said he is shocked at the boldness of the robbery as the sun rose and hopes the police catch the men soon.

“Is it sad they are robbing people on Thanksgiving? Yeah, especially those construction workers for their wallets,” Dufendach said.

Officials said no arrests have been made.
