CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officials said they are still attempting to find any leads in a homicide that happened in September.

Jourdan Malik Hill, 20, was shot to death on Sept. 3 outside of an apartment complex on Pruitt Street in west Charlotte.

CMPD officials shared a brief surveillance video with the public Friday.

In the video, a white Chevrolet Caprice could be seen speeding away from the scene of the crime.

Police believe the shooter was in that vehicle.

"It's not fair,” his mother, Lajuana Hill, said to the media cameras during the news conference. “You're not God. You didn't give life, and you do not have the right to take life."

Hill has devoted her life to helping young men stay out of trouble. She operates a nonprofit, which teaches job skills.

"Children today, when they have too much time on their hands, trouble tends to find them," Hill said.

She hopes someone will come forward with information to catch the alleged shooter.

"But I'm begging you, as a parent who has just lost my baby boy, stop being afraid. Say something," she said.

She also wants young people to stop committing crimes.

"Children, you got to wake up,” Hill said. “You got to do better, and you got to want better. This world is yours. Take it. Opportunity is there. Grab it."
