CMPD officers arrest 2 fugitives in south Charlotte connected to Atlanta murder

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department apprehended two fugitives Tuesday in west Charlotte who were wanted in connection to a murder in Atlanta, officials said.

The police department got information that the suspects could be in the Charlotte area.

Recently, the CMPD received information that two suspects wanted for a murder in Atlanta were possibly in the Charlotte area, and this information was relayed to officers across the CMPD.

Officers spotted their vehicle at about 9 p.m. before the police could conduct a traffic stop.

Hours later, officers found the same car parked at a gas pump at the QuikTrip at 127 East Woodlawn Road.

Demarcus Bussey, 33, was inside the store when officers tried to make an arrest.

Bussey became aggressive and started to fight the officers, CMPD stated in a news release.

An officer used a Taser on Bussey to stop him and safely took him into custody, police said.

The second suspect, Valencia Wilson, 25, remained in the vehicle and was arrested without incident.

Drugs and a stolen firearm were also found in the vehicle and was believed to belong to Bussey, CMPD said.

Both suspects have been arrested for their outstanding warrants from Atlanta.

Bussey faces additional charges in Charlotte for possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana.
