CMPD makes arrests, seizes cars after street takeovers during weekend

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department announced on Monday that officers arrested three people and cited five more after responding to 10 street takeovers over the weekend.

Two people were arrested for having stolen vehicles. One was arrested for resisting, delaying, or obstructing an officer.

Police seized two cars for participating in the illegal activities. One stolen vehicle was seized.

A gun was seized.

Four spectators were cited and someone else was also cited for participating in a takeover.

A vehicle fled a scene damaging two patrol cars.

An officer had minor injuries after trying to stop a fleeing vehicle.

“We remain committed to keeping our streets safe and will continue to crack down on illegal street takeovers,” CMPD said in a news release.
