CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is looking for more women to join its ranks.
The Department held a recruiting event Tuesday at the CMPD Police Athletic League Recreational Center on Spring Street in north Charlotte.
Channel 9 spoke to Deputy Chief Sherie Pearsall about the important role that women have in policing. She said currently, in most police organizations, women make up only about 12% of the staff.
“Women bring a different vibe to policing,” Pearsall said. “Women bring a different perspective. Where we lack brute strength, we bring compassion.”
CMPD pledges to increase the amount of women in its recruit classes to 30% by 2030.
