CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police were called to the scene of a deadly shooting early Monday morning in uptown Charlotte.
Officers responded to North College Street, near North Tryon Street, around 4 a.m. and found 39-year-old Shalamar Venable suffering from a gunshot wound.
She was taken to the hospital but did not survive, officials said. Police told Channel 9 she was shot in the head and that the man who pulled the trigger ran off into some nearby woods.
North Tryon Street was shut down heading into uptown as police searched for the shooter.
Channel 9 crews could see a large police perimeter roping off the area with crime scene tape. North Tryon Street was shut down between College Street and 11th Street.
Police said the man and woman knew each other.
Investigators said one person was being questioned by detectives at police headquarters but would not say if that was the suspect.
