CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is mourning the death of one of its K-9 officers.
CMPD posted on Facebook that K-9 Owen lost his battle with cancer Tuesday morning.

The dog worked at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, where he sniffed out more than $1.6 million worth of drugs, police said.

K-9 Owen was responsible for 45 arrests and helped seize nearly 1,700 pounds of marijuana and 7 kilos of cocaine.
“K-9 Owen will be dearly missed,” the Facebook post read. “Please keep his handler and the Airport Division in your thoughts and prayers.”
