CMPD investigating shots fired in north Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating after shots were fired in north Charlotte early Saturday morning.

It occurred just before 5:30 a.m. on the 2300 block of Lucena Street.

Police said they were responding to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the area when they heard shots being fired nearby. They then searched the area but were not able to locate a suspect.

CMPD said no service weapons were fired in this incident and no one was hurt.

A witness at the scene told Channel 9 that a man fired several at officers before taking off running. However, the department has not confirmed if this occurred.

CMPD said the investigation into this incident is active and ongoing.
