Third victim dies three days after west Charlotte shooting

West Charlotte Reid Avenue Homicide (WSOC)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A third person died Wednesday after a shooting Sunday evening in west Charlotte, CMPD said.

The shootings happened just before 10 p.m. Sunday on Reid Avenue, near West Boulevard.

Officers were in the area for a previous call on Caronia Street when they heard gunshots. When police got to the area, they found two people with gunshot wounds and gave them medical attention before MEDIC arrived.

MEDIC took both victims to the hospital in critical condition, one of which was pronounced dead when they got there.

While investigating, officers learned a third shooting victim had been taken to the hospital and also had life-threatening injuries.

On Monday, CMPD announced that a second person had died. Police identified the victims as 29-year-old Keith Rivera and 28-year-old Kawon Hoover.

CMPD said the third shooting victim who died was 22-year-old Jawuan Tariq Pressley.

“I want people marching in the street,” CMPD Maj. Ryan Butler said. “I want people saying ‘We as a cumulative group, as a society that makes up Charlotte is not gonna tolerate this behavior. We’re not gonna stand for it.‘”

Police said they chased a suspect, but no one has been arrested. They believe the shootings could be connected to the earlier incident on Caronia Street.

No other information has been released.
