CHARLOTTE — A man is accused of shooting and killing another man outside an adult entertainment club in north Charlotte.
Police were called on Saturday just after 2:45 a.m. to Diamonds of Charlotte on Atando Avenue for an assault with a deadly weapon.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Nicholas Davon Cole, 26, was found with traumatic injuries. He was taken to the hospital where he later died, police said.
A person affiliated with Diamonds told Channel 9 that a group of five to six people tried to enter the club, but one of them was turned away due to a fake ID. That led to a fight between the doorman of the club and the group. Shots were fired shortly after fatally striking the victim, according to the source.
This, however, has not been confirmed by police.
On Monday, police said they identified Adonis Smith, 21, as the suspect in the shooting. They took out warrants for first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
CMPD said Smith was also shot Saturday and is still in the hospital. He is in critical but stable condition and will be taken into custody when he is discharged from the hospital, police said.
CMPD is asking anyone with information to call 704-432-TIPS.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
