No one arrested in justified homicide in northeast Charlotte, CMPD says

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Tuesday that a deadly homicide that happened in northeast Charlotte early Dec. 5 was justified.

Police responded just before 3 a.m. to an assault with a deadly weapon call on Ann Elizabeth Drive.

CMPD said they didn’t find a victim at the scene but witnesses told officers that the victim may have been taken to the hospital. A short time later, police responded to the 2000 block of East Independence Boulevard where they found the victim from the initial call shot inside of a vehicle, according to officials.

CMPD said the victim, later identified as Daniel Morales, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jose Morales, Daniel’s father, told Channel 9 that his son received a phone call before the shooting.

“He was sleeping. There was no reason for him to be out unless someone called him. And that’s why we are trying to see if the police can find out why he was out or who called him because we know someone called him,” Jose said.
