CHARLOTTE — CMPD is searching for a man accused of a deadly shooting in west Charlotte that happened in June.
A man was found dead after he was shot at an apartment complex in west Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Police said they went to Camp Greene Street near Freedom Drive just before 5 p.m. on July 5. At the scene, officers said they found 19-year-old Yimere Joymer, who had been shot. Investigators said he died at the scene.
Demetrius Tyrek Mason, 19, was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Mason is considered armed and dangerous.
Nyquan Demartrice Marriner, 18, was arrested earlier in July in connection with the case. He was charged with murder, armed robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Resident Nisha Richardson told Channel 9 that she was blocked from getting to her apartment unit after the shooting.
“I see the body covered, laying right in front of the doorstep,” Richardson said.
Just above the scene on a higher floor, Richardson said her father was babysitting her daughters when the gunfire erupted in the breezeway of the building.

“It’s crazy because that’s the stairway that me and my daughters take every day to come to the parking lot,” Richardson added.
Police said this shooting will be investigated as a homicide. They are asking anyone with information to call 704-432-TIPS and ask to speak directly to a homicide detective.
“There were enough gunshots that people within the building heard the shots being fired,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Maj. Brian Foley said. “Complex management is working with us ... to provide some additional information, potentially video.”
Police said as they look for the shooter, they’re also searching for whatever solution it takes to get through to those who continue to settle simple matters with guns.
“When you have young people, they’re upset, they’re angry, they’re hot. It’s summertime. They get mad about a beef,” Foley said. “Please try and talk them out of doing something wrong.”
Editor’s Note: CMPD initially identified the victim as Yimere Joyner. We have corrected this article with Joymer’s correct spelling, according to updated reports.
