Neighbors duck for cover during east Charlotte shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating a homicide at the 2200 block of Finchley Drive.

Officers received a call for service at 2:33 a.m. When they arrived on Finchley Drive they found Esteban Peralta Leon in a vehicle with a gunshot wound. Leon, 46, died at the scene.

Neighbors said it's been one bad incident after another for months now.

"I heard a lot of shooting and so I told my daughter to get on the floor--we both got on the floor," said T Means, a neighbor.

"We heard three shots, looked out the window, three more came and the guy was shot right there," said Mable Robinson, a neighbor.

In August SWAT officers were outside a house on the same street for hours after police said a man shot at one of his relatives.

In April 2012 an SUV flipped on Finchley Drive, killing 17-year old Jose Juarez-Cruz.

Police haven't released any information about a possible suspect or a motive.
