CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Memorials are growing at Joshua Pang's school, Community House Middle School, and at the site where he died in a crash early Saturday morning.
The 14-year-old was in the front passenger seat of a Honda with his seat belt on when his friend driving lost control and hit a tree. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said driver Andrew Sung, 17, was speeding and alcohol and drugs were not a factor.
Keller Harrison was good friends with Pang.
They were in the same grade and Boy Scout troop.
“I’ll never forget Josh. He was a really good person,” Keller told Channel 9.

The school's spirit rock was painted in memory of him.
In a Facebook post, one of the girls who was in the car with him wrote in part,
"Joshua, I love you so much and I know you are with GOD in heaven," a girl, who was in the same car when the wreck happened, wrote on her Facebook page.
Additional counselors were at Community House Monday to help grieving students.
"We were just remembering some of the good times me and Josh had," Keller said about the conversation with the counselor.
Michael Boylan lives near the crash site and called 911 early Saturday morning.
"Those families are changed forever and I just hope everyone will pray for them," Boylan said.
He added people often speed and crash in the stretch of McKee Road where the fatal accident happened.
Eyewitness News anchor Liz Foster checked with Charlotte's Department of Transportation and since January of 2011, there have been 102 crashes just within a 3.5-mile stretch of the busy south Charlotte road.
Pang's funeral is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday at Heritage Funeral Home in Matthews.
Sung, who was driving the Honda, is still in critical condition at Carolinas Medical Center.
Channel 9 asked Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officials Monday if Sung will face any charges after he’s released from the hospital.
Officials said any updates on the investigation will be in a press release.
