CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were investigating five separate shootings over a violent 24 hours in the Queen City this weekend.

The latest shooting happened early Sunday morning in north Charlotte. Police found a man shot in the leg around 1:40 a.m. at Rudean’s Restaurant on Beatties Ford Road and Dr. Webber Avenue.

The victim is expected to survive and police have not arrested anyone in the crime.

The shooting took place not far from the location of Charlotte's first homicide of 2016, which took place on Jan. 3 nearby in the 2200 block of Beatties Ford Road.

Before Sunday morning's shooting, officers responded to four different shootings Saturday, one which left a college student dead.

Investigators said a man was walking near Statesville Road at Burmith Avenue around 10:20 p.m. when someone robbed him at gunpoint and shot him.

Another man said he narrowly missed getting caught in the crossfire.

"We came down the road and we was going to stop on our way back. But I'm so glad we didn't because they had the shooting going on out here, and I have my grandson with me. So anything could have happened," Kobie Emmanuel said.

Police said the victim's injuries are non-life-threatening and they had no suspect information.

Officers were also searching for four people connected to an attempted armed robbery and shooting in southeast Charlotte.

CMPD said the victim was walking down Ware Street when a blue Ford Focus carrying four men approached.

Police said someone shot the victim in the leg but that person is expected to be OK. Officers said they haven't determined whether anything was stolen.

Another shooting happened Saturday afternoon in a McDonald’s parking lot on Beatties Ford Road in north Charlotte.

Medic rushed the victim to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and again investigators have not released a suspect description.

A college student visiting family was shot and killed early Saturday morning in northeast Charlotte.

Police said someone killed Adrian Potts just before 3 a.m. on Collegiate Avenue.

Investigators said a large group was inside an apartment when a fight broke out. Three other people were injured in the shooting and two remained in the hospital Sunday morning.

Police haven't released any information about a suspect in that case either.
