CHARLOTTE, N.C. — CMPD officers were called to a shopping center on Rea Road late Friday morning after an armed robbery was reported.
Chopper 9 flew over the Blakeney shopping center and there was crime scene tape at the back entrance of the Kay Jewelers.

The robbery happened around 10:45 a.m.
Police said a car pulled up to the store and a suspect wearing a mask and carrying a gun walk in, grabbed a fistful of jewelry, and ran back out.
As officers and crime scene technicians looked at anything that the suspect may have dropped on his way out of the store, Louann Mason said she came by the area with her grandson.
"It doesn't sound good. It's very unsettling. It's very frightening to be honest with you," Mason said.
Shopper Melinda Barnhart told Channel 9 while she does feel safe in the shopping center, she has learned to not take safety for granted.
"I pay attention when I park and I look around and I just pay attention to my surroundings. Even in a place like this," Barnhart said.
