CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has identified the officer involved in a fatal shooting outside Coyote Joe’s in west Charlotte over the weekend.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday.
CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings said an officer was working off-duty at the nightclub on Wilkinson Boulevard and called in about someone with a gun.
Once other officers arrived at the scene, one of those officers felt a threat and shot and killed the man with the gun. The man died at the scene, according to police.
The officer who perceived an imminent deadly threat and discharged his weapon during this incident has been identified as Joseph Calabro.
Calabro has been with the department since June 2016, according to police.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said the investigation into this officer-involved shooting is active and ongoing.
