CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said it’s charged a man with second-degree murder after a deadly shooting at a gas station in west Charlotte earlier this month.

Detectives with the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team arrested Michael Patrick, 27, on Tuesday morning.

He’s charged in the murder of 22-year-old Kareem McLeod.

Officers said they responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon on Clanton Road around 11:45 p.m. Oct. 19.

When police arrived on scene, they said they found McLeod suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in the parking lot.

MEDIC responded and transported the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Patrick was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office after his arrest.
