CMPD: Driver of stolen car crashes into vehicle, power pole north of uptown

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A section of a busy road just north of uptown had to be shut down early Friday after police said the driver of a stolen car crashed into another vehicle and also damaged a power pole.

North Graham Street was closed near 28th Street after the crash around 3 a.m.

Duke Energy crews were called to the scene to repair the power pole that was hit.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police told Channel 9 a license plate reader detected the stolen car's plates and that the suspect was speeding down Lasalle Street over Interstate 77 and ended up crashing on Graham Street.

The suspect and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to the hospital but are expected to be OK.

Police have not released the suspect’s name or charges they will be facing.

One lane was reopened around 6 a.m.
