CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged a man in the Friday murder at a quiet uptown Charlotte apartment complex.

Andre Amir Young-Johnson, 20, has been charged with armed robbery, kidnapping and murdering Julian Ray Williams, 35, at the Presley Apartment complex in the 900 block of E. Stonewall Street in uptown Charlotte.

Police believe the two knew each other.

Residents were shocked by the violence.

“I came home and there was like six ambulances and a bunch of police cars,” Brianna Hurley said.

Police haven’t said how Young-Johnson knew Williams or how they believe Williams died.

"Very surprising to hear that something like that happened here,” Juan Castillo said.

“It just seems like a shock to the neighborhood,” Terry Kolek said. "Very, very safe, so it's a scary thing. I hope it's an isolated incident."

Channel 9 found there haven’t been any violent crimes within a quarter mile radius of the neighborhood this year.

"I mean a lot of young people live here, a lot of young professionals, so to hear something like that happen is pretty astonishing,” Castillo said.

"We moved here specifically because it's a super safe area, so it's super shocking to hear that it happened right in this complex,” Hurley said.
