CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police: Man suspected of breaking into home punches officer and flees

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested and charged Santerius Qwayshawn Allen, 22, after they said he broke into a home in July and later punched an officer in the face.

On July 24, officers responded to a breaking-and-entering call on North Graham Street.

The victim said someone entered the apartment and took several items from inside.

During the investigation, detectives identified Allen as the suspect and obtained warrants for felony breaking and entering and larceny.

Allen is homeless so police knew it would be hard to find him. He was known to distribute flyers to area businesses uptown. Officers asked managers to call if they spotted him and one did.

On Friday, officers found Allen on North Church Street and attempted to arrest him, but he punched the officer and fled.

Police set up a perimeter and located Allen in a cemetery, where he was apprehended.

The officer was not seriously hurt.

Allen was also charged with assault on a government official and resisting arrest; he remains in jail.
