CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is announcing their safety plans Monday for the city’s New Year’s Eve festivities.
This year, the events will take place inside Truist Field instead of on Levine Avenue of the Arts.
Organizers said the move has been in the works for a while and it’s not because of past violence tied to the event.
Five people were hurt in a shooting last New Year’s Eve.
Last week, Daevion Crawford pleaded guilty to his involvement in the shooting.
On July 4, 2023, there was an incident similar to last December’s shooting.
CMPD arrested 47 people in and around Romare Bearden Park, with 17 of them being teenagers.
Police said after both incidents they would work hard to improve safety around Uptown.
All guests who attend this year’s crown lighting at Truist Field will have to go through security.
We’ll share CMPD’s safety plans tonight on Eyewitness News.
