CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Animal Shelter still needs help finding forever families for their dogs after finding temporary homes for the holiday weekend.
The shelter asked for the public’s help as they were critically full. A total of 34 dogs found temporary homes, but the shelter needs help. The shelter said if more dogs don’t find a permanent home, some could be euthanized.
From January to March of this year, the shelter has euthanized 211 dogs. That’s 30 more than the same period as 2022.
Jessica Francis with CMPD Animal Care and Control told Channel 9 a staycation could help save a dog’s life. A staycation for just five days could free up space at the shelter.
“If people could come out, please just take a dog for a staycation, you could save a life,” Francis said.
The shelter is open this weekend from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can find information about how to help the shelter by clicking here.
