Man charged in east Charlotte shooting that left 18-year-old dead, another person hurt

CHARLOTTE — A man was arrested and charged Thursday for a shooting that left one person dead and another hospitalized in east Charlotte.

Officers were called around 11:45 p.m. on July 7 to a home on Turtle Neck Lane, near Albemarle Road and W.T. Harris Boulevard.

When they arrived, police found two victims who were shot. One of them, 18-year-old Dekoven Kali Ware, was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to the hospital. That person’s name has not been released.

Hakim Leonard Eads, 19, was charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and possession of firearm by a convicted felon.

Channel 9 crews could see detectives collecting evidence and speaking with people outside the home.

Police have not released any other details about the ongoing investigation.
