CHARLOTTE — With the next phase of the streetcar scheduled to open later this spring, city government and transit officials already have an eye on the third and final portion. This week, the city issued requests for qualifications for the remaining six miles of the 10-mile CityLynx Gold Line.

The city is looking for a firm or multiple firms to handle project management, architecture and engineering, and environmental aspects of the project. Government-funded transit projects typically take years to design, moving in phases of schedules, cost estimates and routing before construction begins.

Currently, phase-three design of the streetcar is 30% finished, according to the city and Charlotte Area Transit System.

The deadline for firms to apply is April 30.
