CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte leaders provided an update about the design of a pedestrian bridge that will link uptown and South End.
The unveiling of the Rail Trail Pedestrian Bridge took place Tuesday morning at the Charlotte Urban Design Center.
Charlotte City Council Member Larken Egleston, Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners Chairman George Dunlap and executives from U.S. Bank were in attendance.
The unveiling provided an updated version of the renderings of the bridge as well as a report on the project’s status.
The Rail Trail Pedestrian Bridge is an $11 million project to extend the rail trail over I-277. The U.S. Bank donated $1 million to help make the project happen.

Construction on the rail trail is expected to begin in mid-2022 and is expected to be completed in 2024.
The bridge is expected to cost the City of Charlotte $3.1 million, the North Carolina Department of Transportation $3.3, Mecklenburg County $3.1 million and the U.S. Bank $3.1 million.
