CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte City Council will discuss the controversial proposal to build a Major League Soccer stadium in the city's Elizabeth neighborhood.
The council voted to refer the proposal to the economic development committee on July 20.
Former interim city manager Ron Kimble says the city will not fund the full $43 million request and will instead potentially fund around $30 million.
Council members said they are not pressured to meet the county's August deadline.
MLS4CLT released this statement:
"We hope the city and county can continue to work toward realizing the dream of a stadium in Charlotte on a timeline that works for all parties. Our commitment to bring Major League Soccer to Charlotte has not wavered, nor has the support of thousands of people in this community who are looking to their elected officials to endorse this plan that will positively impact our region for generations to come."
