City leaders reviewing how new state law could impact zoning rules in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Leaders in Charlotte are reviewing how a new state law could impact the city’s unified development ordinance and zoning rules.

The state’s Helene Relief Bill contains a provision that bans downzoning without the consent of the affected property owner.

That means decreasing development density and reducing permitted uses on a plot of land.

The city said it is working to learn how this will change future developments in Charlotte.
