CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte City Council is moving forward with a plan to ask voters to approve four-year-terms for council members.
City leaders will vote on Feb. 11 to start the process for a referendum on the proposal.

If the council approves the measure next week, a public hearing will have to be held within 45 days.
A majority of council members want voters to decide on the issue at the ballot box in November.
