CHARLOTTE — The future of the remaining 29 acres of Eastland Yards was decided Monday night.

The Charlotte City Council voted unanimously to move forward with a project that combines two proposals.

“The Complex” will include an indoor sports facility with space for Esports, an outdoor sports complex that can be used for festivals, and space for restaurants and retail.

It no longer includes a hotel or an 18,000-seat amphitheater.

The council will reimburse up to $30 million for infrastructure on the project.

Construction on most of Eastland Yards is already underway.

Plans call for an affordable housing complex for seniors, single-family homes, townhomes, retail, and restaurants.

The city thinks the sports component will take 38 months to build.
