The event was planned to start at noon but organizers said so many people lined up, they started early. They planned to go until about 2 p.m. at the Mobil gas station at 3814 Brookshire Boulevard in northwest Charlotte.

“During the pandemic, you know, everything is tight so I really do need it. And I’m blessed to get in line to get it,” said Benjamin Jenkins, who was first in line.

The church said this is their way of giving back to the community.
