CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are searching for the gunman who opened fire during a drive-by shooting overnight in northwest Charlotte, striking a woman inside a home in which several children were inside.

The shooting happened just after 2:30 a.m. along Brooktree Drive, near Freedom Drive and Toddville Road.
Channel 9 crews could see officers placing evidence markers in the street where police found bullet casings.
Investigators said at least seven bullets hit two homes in which more than a dozen people were inside, including several children.
No children were hurt and the woman, who was shot in the hip, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police were interviewing witnesses, but no description of the shooter or the car have been released.
Officers believe the home was intentionally targeted.
