YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A woman was killed Tuesday night in a violent two-vehicle crash in York County, according to state troopers.
Investigators said a four-year-old child was in a Kia that crossed the center line and crashed into another vehicle going in the opposite direction.
The child, who was properly restrained, was injured and taken to a hospital as a precaution, troopers said.
The driver of the Kia, Ashley Knox, died in the collision.
“I can’t say enough good things to describe her,” Knox’s friend, Tracy Stanly said. “She is one of my friends that I never had a falling out with. We never had a harsh word between us.”
The fatal collision happened on Highway 5 about 6 miles south of Rock Hill.
Knox was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
“It was heart-wrenching,” Stanly said. “I’ve been sick to my stomach since.”
Stanly said Knox was a great mother.
“To see her just do everything for Emory,” Stanly said. “I’m just so sad. I’m really sad for Emory. I hope she hangs on to some of these memories.”
Stanly said Emory will live with her grandmother in South Carolina.
The driver of the other vehicle, a box truck, was taken to a hospital via ambulance.
